Patek Philippe’s perpetual calendar chronographs are highly coveted, as they are considered valuable collector’s classics. The magnificent combination of complications executed with Patek Philippe’s impeccable technical workmanship and the exquisite artisanal finishing of the movement parts, the high level of which is confirmed by the presence of the Poinçon de Genève, as well as the harmonious design of the dial undoubtedly make this lot extremely attractive. Production of the 3970, which is divided into four series, began in 1986 and continued until 2004. This watch with platinum case, obelisk hands, diamond indices, sapphire caseback and double folding clasp belongs to the fourth series with an estimated total production of 2,000 pieces for all versions. One of the reasons why this reference is so interesting is the fact that Patek Philippe began using the basic Lemania 2320 chronograph movement, which is one of the best in its class and, after a revision by Patek Philippe, is the basis for the CH 27-70 Q caliber of this watch.
