DETAILS
The Octa Réserve de Marche is the first automatic watch launched by F. P. Journe in 2001, и его третье творение после Tourbillon Souverain и Chronomètre à Résonance. The caliber 1300 was originally developed by François-Paul Journe to meet the wishes of his customers who preferred a self-winding watch. He designed a slim caliber that made it possible to incorporate various additional complications without changing the overall thickness of the movement and ensured that the thickness of the case remained practically the same for all models in the Octa collection. For the caliber 1300, François-Paul Journe developed a large barrel with a one meter long and 1 mm high mainspring, which allowed a power reserve of about 160 hours, of which 120 hours were taken to ensure a chronometric precision rate with only a 25% drop in amplitude after the first 120 hours of power reserve. After its launch in 2001, the Octa Réserve de Marche was equipped with the traditional brass caliber 1300 for three years before being fitted in 2004 with a new-generation movement with mainplate and bridges in 18k rose gold. This caliber 1300.2 with bidirectional winding was then used for about the next 3 years. In 2007, F. P. Journe changed the winding system to unidirectional winding to make it more efficient for people with moderate physical activity; this version of the movement is known as caliber 1300.3. Based on this, the third generation Octa Réserve de Marche was produced until 2014 and then discontinued, only to be unexpectedly relaunched in 2021 under the name Octa Automatique in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Octa Réserve de Marche. Now, this model remains in the brand's collection with the same caliber 1300.3 and a 40 mm or 42 mm case in platinum 950 or 18k rose gold.
REASONS TO BUY
This Octa Réserve de Marche in rose gold is, in our opinion, an exclusive offering. It is a rare find for collectors and connoisseurs of F. P. Journe watchmaking who have the chance to acquire the "triple rose gold" Octa Réserve de Marche of the second generation with the caliber 1300.2 in solid 18k rose gold, the 38 mm case in 18k rose gold and the frosted dial in 18k rose gold. It combines the charisma of the brand's founder with the high level of watchmaking craftsmanship, outstanding ergonomics and classic style that one has come to expect from F. P. Journe watches. Considering the fact that the second generation of the Octa Réserve de Marche is rarer than the first generation, we consider this watch to be very valuable in terms of its collector's value and appeal.
ABOUT THIS WATCH
The second-generation Octa Réserve de Marche was available in 38 mm and 40 mm sizes, with dials in white, rose and yellow gold, paired with cases in platinum or rose gold. The asymmetrical design of the dial was a clear sign of the watchmaker’s unmistakable style when the watch was launched and gave not only this watch but also the other models in the Octa collection a unique character. Elaborate dial finishes such as the frosted, textured solid rose gold dial plate, the applied solid silver sub-dial engraved with a guilloché Clous de Paris pattern and fine grooves, the teardrop-shaped Journe hands in blued steel and the Arabic numerals designed by François-Paul Journe himself undoubtedly enhance the appeal of this watch. The rose gold case and the pin buckle contribute to an almost monochrome image that emphasizes the museum-like character typical of F. P. Journe watches.
The combination of rose gold case and rose gold dial on this watch from 2005 is quite unusual. It is one of the rarest combinations in François-Paul Journe's collection, as he usually favored high-contrast combinations.
According to acollectedman.com, during the three years in which the second generation of the Octa Réserve de Marche with caliber 1300.2 was produced, fewer watches were made than of the first generation with brass movements, which are highly sought after by collectors.
