Founded in 2009 by creative entrepreneur, designer and visionary Yvan Arpa, ArtyA specializes in the production of exceptional collector’s models. One of the most striking aspects of Yvan Arpa’s career before ArtyA – apart from his first job as a math teacher, which started his adult life – was Romain Jérôme, a Swiss brand that started out as a rather boring and predictable manufacturer of golf-style watches with tourbillons and evolved under Arpa’s reign into a generator of crazy conceptual designs and complications. After the end of the Romain Jérôme adventure, Yvan Arpa focused on uncompromising collector’s watches in the early years of the brand’s existence with the ArtyA collection, embodying his bold design ideas that did not always meet with approval from professionals and connoisseurs of fine watchmaking. Today, the models in the Art collection embody his creative power, while the brand’s other collections are more in line with the generally accepted idea of Swiss collector’s watches. These include the Purity collection with its purist approach to skeletonized, traditional mechanical calibers, mostly tourbillons. The purist character of most models in the Purity collection is emphasized by the use of a transparent case, usually made of synthetic sapphire crystal. This is also the case with this Curvy Purity Tourbillon “Emerald” Piece Unique, which has been given a tonneau-shaped sapphire case in emerald green, so that even the lugs are made of this high-tech material. The winding crown is also made of emerald green synthetic sapphire.

ABOUT THIS WATCH
Since 2016, Yvan Arpa has been experimenting with a completely transparent case made of synthetic sapphire. This follows on from the hype that Richard Mille had triggered three years earlier, in 2013, with his RM 056. But until the Curvy Purity Tourbillon, which was launched in 2023, Arpa had only worked with a round shape. The Curvy Purity is his first tonneau-shaped transparent sapphire case, with the winding crown in the upper position, at 12 o’clock, giving the watch a perfectly symmetrical shape and structure. Accordingly, the hand-wound movement, developed and manufactured for ArtyA by the Swiss atelier for complex movements Télôs, is adapted to the tonneau-shaped case. Equipped with two barrels, the movement is symmetrical and has a vertical axis so that both barrels are at the top, while the oversized 17 mm flying tourbillon is positioned at 6 o’clock. The skeletonized bridges, whose presence is minimal, have a geometrically pure ring shape that gives the movement a high degree of openness – its entire inner workings are open to observe and enjoy the complex gears at work, which is very important in watches with a traditional complication such as a tourbillon.
